Left Behind

“Why do the nations rage and the people plot in vain?”

(Psalm 2:1)

Our human condition isn’t limited to just us personally. The same faults and flaws we all have are reflected in society at large.

Nations rage against nations, cultures against cultures, and people against people. The same as we often do personally, groups work to impose their own plans and designs on others, as if they know best.

Countries compete for dominance on the world stage, and in doing so the inevitable result is always the same — some are left behind.

Where one nation abounds in wealth and supply, another is stripped of its resources and influence. While one country advances, another suffers. Well-to-do people wearing sharp suits in posh offices devise fancy terms like ‘market forces’ or ‘economic trade imbalances’ — a rhetorical attempt to disguise what is truly just the manifestation of arrogant and selfish behavior on grand scales.

The eyes of God look down from the cosmos on this blue-green planet, like a dismayed and frustrated parent with children bickering over a room full of toys. If only they would share and cooperate with one another, they could have a good time!

Instead, in collective immaturity, we rattle our sabers and wave our flags at one another, warring against the other even unto death. How many have died so patriotically, under the vain banner of some fleeting national or cultural supremacy?

We often act this way in our personal lives, as well.

We all share the same earth, air, water and light. If only we would share the same spirit.

That’s just what Jesus gave his life trying to show us.
