“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
(Colossians 3:2)
This is easier said than done. Breaking free from the bondage of self and worldly things, and elevating to a higher level of awareness and consciousness and generosity, is what the Bible is all about.
Its whole purpose is to give us a glimpse into a better way of living — a way of peace, gentleness and prosperity, if we will choose it.
However, there are many false prophets who have perverted that message for their own benefit. The Bible’s meaning of prosperity has nothing at all to do with material gain or worldly stuff.
Where the Bible promises prosperity, it is in spiritual terms. Yes, it means our basic needs will be met — food, clothing, shelter — but that provision comes as a result of achieving a mindset that values others ahead of ourselves. We seek and find ourselves among a community of others who do the same, and when each of us works to help and support one another, we all have our needs met.
Nothing in the Bible encourages people to selfishly seek material things. There is no scripture anywhere in its pages that says it’s okay or acceptable to seek or acquire worldly wealth. On the contrary, the Bible and Jesus himself directly teach against pursuing material gain; rather, we are to be selfless and help others before anything else.
If you see a pastor or preacher flying around in a private jet, living in a mansion, or driving a luxury sports car… beware.
They are the devil in disguise.
